I will never forget the day my dad brought home my dog. I wasn't expecting it at all. I was it basketball practice and because it was a Friday, I invited my friend Mariangel to hang out. When my mother picked us up she told me, "there is a little surprise waiting for you at home." I was very excited because it was unusual to have surprises and most of the surprises were things I wanted for a very long time. I have wanted a dog for a very long time, but my mother always told me that having a dog is liking having another baby and that if I wanted one I really needed to take care of it. My sister wanted a dog too, but like me, she didn't like the idea of cleaning and repairing the damage the dog could cause. When we finally arrived home my mother told me that my father was not here yet. I knew that meant that whatever the surprise was it wasn't here yet. Me and my friend were very disappointed, so we waiting in the garden and started to do random things. My father finally arrived and I saw that my sister was with him with a small puppy in her arms.
I was so excited and I shouted, "LUISA, is the dog for me?"
She starting laughing and said, "it's ours, we both have to take care of it".
The dog looked very nervous and scared at first. She kept looking at us like if we were aliens, but I was too happy to care about that. That dog that at first was just a surprise, became part of my family. She is now 6 years old and a lot fatter than when I meet her but she will always belong with my family. It's funny how good things come in unexpected ways and they turned to be a permanent part of your life.
